Ten tracks you need to hear this week

Summer may be drawing to a close but it’s not over yet! Update your playlist with these must hear new tracks, from the returning BANKS to future superstar NAO.

There can only be one king of Toronto and that, of course, is Drake. However, amongst the contenders who could take the crown from Drizzy, and who manages to be even more ‘sentimental’ when it comes to the ladies, is PND. New album P3 is due August 12th and could be the big one that sets him off, especially since his stock has risen after co-writing ‘Work’ for Rhianna.

Fancy a bit of synthy, pitch-shifted post-club house? This new one from Montreal producer Jacques Green ticks all those boxes while retaining a certain amount of edge to it that’ll keep you dancing that little bit longer.

DIANA GORDON – The Legend Of

Formerly known as Wynter Gordon and now recording under her birth name, Gordon has been a prolific writer and performer since around 2004, having previously worked with David Guetta and Jennifer Lopez. But it’s writing credits on Beyonce’s latest, Lemonade, that has thrust her back into the limelight and if ‘The Legend Of’ is anything to go by we can’t wait to hear more.

GRIMES – Medieval Warfare

Suicide Squad may have failed everyone’s eager expectations but if ever there’s a new Grimes song to be heard, we’re more than happy about that no matter the reason. This one is Grimes at her best.

BANKS – The Altar

The Altar, due September 30th. We’ve already had a sneaky listen – if you’re a fan you won’t be disappointed and if you’re coming at it fresh, or giving her a second chance, you’ll be in for a treat.

One of the others acts in line with PARTYNEXTDOOR to usurp Drake is Tory Lanez whose fusion of R&B and Hip Hop is gaining him plenty of fans. ‘Flex’ is one of three tracks already out from his debut studio album, due August 19th.

ALUNA GEORGE – Mean What I Mean

It’s party time for Aluna Francis, Leikeli47 and Dreezy as “Mean What I Mean” drops alongside a desert-based video. Aluna’s new record I Remember arrives in September. It’s gonna be good.

KDA – Just Say (Featuring Tinashe)

KDA invites Tinashe to the dancefloor for the deep “Just Say”. Moving on from her latest release,“Superlove”, this is the first sign that Tinashe’s follow-up to 2014’s Aquarius is going to be an eclectic, experimental affair when it arrives at the end of summer.

NAO – Trophy (Featuring AK Paul)

Breakout voice of 2016, NAO just dropped her album, For All We Know which we highly recommend. Full of updated Michael Jackson sounds and Nao’s ever-changing vocals, “Trophy” featuring AK Paul is one of the best tracks.

ZHU – Working For It (Featuring Skrillex and They)

With a little help from Skrillex and LA duo THEY producer ZHU drops this twisted hit from his debut album GENERATIONWHY. They call it future music, we call it a sure fire hit.
